can't lift heaiver weights.

I did a dumb bell press 40lbs for 5-6 reps. after 2-3min rest, decide to lift 45lbs, but failed to like even 1 good rep without a spotter. wonder why even 5lbs lang parang ang bigat nang weight

Iba't iba tayo ng definition ng word na "mabigat" depende sa lakas ng isang tao. When the time comes na kapag andun ka na sa heaviest set mo, you will see that every single lb counts. Pati na movement mo, kung pano ka huminga, yung explosiveness mo sa pag angat ng dumbbells/barbells and lalong lalo na katulad ng sinabi ni @rtravino29 yung mental focus. I'm currently setting new PRs on different exercises, mainly because of mental focus. Inalis ko yung takot. Sinabi kasi sakin nung friend kong PT na kaya daw natin bumuhat ng mabigat, nauunahan lang tayo ng takot at kaba. Kaya nawawala yung focus.

I did a dumb bell press 40lbs for 5-6 reps

naiisip ko tuloy baka 5 rep max na niya to and last set na..
before ako nag aad nang weights / add nang reps, dami ko seremonyas, kalkulado ko ko yung reps/ mental focus / warm up/ before breaking my pr.

halimbawa, lets say in your case db press

    ganito ako yung sakin

    1st :
    40 x5
    40 x5
    40 x5
    2nd:
    40x5
    40x3
    45 x3-5
    3rd
    40x5
    40x5
    45x5
    4th
    40x5
    45 x5
    45x3 - 5
    5th
    45 x 5
    45x 5
    45x3-5

aaand so on and so forth.. but then again, gaya nang sabi ni sir big d, indi linear yung progress natin, darating at darating yung time na papalya sa estimation mo, soo... kailangan mo talaga nang patience
