IMO, he decided to bulk since if he fights at his usual weight, yes he would have speed but still not enough power to match against Pacquiao. This was the case in their 3 previous fights. I think he just got frustrated and went for broke this time since even if he won more rounds against Pac in their last 3 fights, the judges still gave Pac the 2 victories. So he knows that he can't leave it with the judges hands again and only a KO would win him the fight.
So he sacrificed his speed for power. Didn't you notice how slow he was in his counter punching earlier? Not the Marquez that I'm used to see. However, the power in his right hand was undeniable. He never decked Pac before and anyone who fought Pac for that matter for the longest time, but then he floored him twice today with just ONE PUNCH.
Ang daming kinain na suntok ni Pac sa kanya in their previous fights but halos di natinag si Pac. But today, two solid punches got the job done for Marquez. Also, Pac rattled him in the 5th but JMM didn't really hit the canvass. Tumukod lang yung right hand nya pero di talaga tumumba unlike the 4 previous knockdowns he suffered in their previous fights. Again, I attribute that to the power and strength that he gained from bulking up.
Masyado din kasing naging sakim si Pac. Alam naman nyang tagilid sya kay Marquez and he has already won twice (although I think JMM won the third fight) against him, still he chose to fight JMM because of the money. Religious? lol.
He could've chosen an easier fight gaya ng advice ng karamihan ng mga nakapaligid sa kanya in preparation for a super fight against FMJ next year. A Bradley rematch would do provided that he KO's Bradley. Now, with this kind of loss, most likely di na lalaban to or kung lumaban man sya ulit, with that kind of KO he won't be the same fighter anymore.
