Guys, do you ever had a sparring partner that really tried to hurt or injure you ? How did you handle the situation ?

Another thing, how many unarmed thugs (no martial arts training) can you fight at the same time assuming you are a very experienced MMA fighter ?

From my personal experience, rarely will you find an unarmed thug, especially in a 3rd world country. In a streetfight, anything goes so fairness and honor are thrown out of the window. Ballpens, pencils, toothbrushes as stabbing weapons, coins inside of a handkerchief as crude "brass" knuckles and other unassuming day-to-day utensils can easily be converted into weapons.

But when worse comes to worst, having sharp striking skills can maybe catch a couple of goons unguarded, and then a good 200-400m dash run to give you a good headstart and a 1km endurance to go to the nearest mall ofc. Grappling skills work well one-on-one but you'll never know if he has acquaintances around him. The last thing you'll need is a soccer kick to the head.

So, even an experienced MMA fighter can only fight one at a time....

I thought maybe you can fight two or three thugs as long as you are very good....

Matt Hughes has an account of Chuck Liddell knocking out drunk attackers left and right in his book, but then, Chuck has bona fide one punch KO power. Lee murray, despite being a weight class lower KO'd Tito ortiz in the streets, a result that might have been different had it been in the Octagon.

There is also a video of Don Frye getting knocked down by an old boxer named Sonny Westbrook after an altercation.
  • in taekwondo our teacher trains us to fight 1 vs. 2 or more cause he said when you end up in a street fight you'll know what to do and besides when getting your black belt you need to fight black belters from korea and here in the philippines. its called korean massage :D

  • nrg500nrg500 Posts: 1,233
^ what do you mean ? payat ang wrists mo ?

ang alam ko, may tama na sa forearms ang deadlift or any exercise that requires strong hand grip

try to clench your fist very hard at kapain mo yung forearms mo
  • boss_jboss_j Posts: 1,243
yung typical na ecto payat yung wrist, di naman kasi tumataba yung wrist eh bone lang to, buti yung forearm ko tumaba na.. dati nun patpat pa e, straight na payat yung arms now eh parang pantalon na baston, mataba sa taas tapos papayat pababa.

siguro kelangan lang dalasan pag ppractice, dko kasi masyado nasasapak yung punching bag dito dahil na nga pag tinotodo ko yung power para bang bibigay yung wrist lol.

di ko alam yung tawag dun

wrist wrap ba ? he he

yung nilalagay ng mga boxer sa wrist area nila

yun na lang ang gawin mo. protection yun para stable ang wrist pag sumuntok ng malakas

    The spear!

Mga Amateur lang like me yung gumagamit ng protective head gear and heavier oz. MMA gloves.

Minsan pa we're also required to wear shin guards etc. depende sa organizer.

tga marikina ako bro,,sbe nila boxing muna ko bgo start ng mma pra ok n dw un stance ko,,tma b un bro?

    @ronald

The best "base" discipline when it comes to striking is "Muay-Thai", because it uses 8 limbs(punches, elbows, knees and kicks) compared to boxing(punches), and you'll learn clinch works and basic sweeps/takedowns. But at the end of the day it's your call(whatever floats your boat, right?)

Then, when you're already proficient in striking, work on your grappling and/or wrestling..:)
