is it enough to eat the 'normal daily filipino foods' ?

spyghostspyghost Posts: 14E-Class
who doesn't love eating? i bet everyone loves

filipino foods are good, tasty and by all means irresistible. if one eats the normal breakfast, lunch, dinner, are the filipino stapes enough to tone our bodies? by tone i mean give muscle mass for figure so as not to look skinny (even if ectomorph).

example (there's a huge amount of water during the day - 3L perhaps):
breakfast
- egg
- tapa
- cup of fried rice
- coffee
- banana

morning break
- pandesal

lunch
- tinola
- cup of rice
- manggo

afternoon break
- turon

dinner
- calderata
- ginisang gulay (semi chopsuey)
- cup of rice
- watermelon

is it enough to eat the 'normal daily filipino foods' ?,,,,,,,,To do what? Build muscles? NO!!!
Sorry to say, but the Pinoy dishes are very indeed tasty and delicious. But are not very healthy. Why because it's loaded with fat and cholesterol. A balanced diet is an important practice in BB. Balanced meaning good fats, protein and good carbs. Browse around the diet section to get a better feel for what your looking forcheers

muscles will only gain mass if you put it in constant physical stress like thru workout. the muscle fibers rips/stretches and swells, at the same time it'll need food like protein, carbs and such in order to heal and repair itself. repeat this process once or twice a week per muscle group and that's the entirety how muscle development works along with proper diet and supplements.
eating alone won't create muscle mass, once you eat, your body will distribute those nutrients to your system 'ex. protein' for your muscles to avoid muscle atrophy 'decrease in mass' and in order for it to function properly. that's it, excess food you eat will just contribute to your body fat. at least that is how I understand it.

my main purpose is not to drive my wife nuts in prepping up and buying stuff for me. besides, i want to share whatever we have on the table with the family specially with the kids :)

i don't know if its right, but what i am doing right now is more on veggie/fish diet (since i have high cholesterol) and minimal rice. thing is, i really can't tell if i am gaining mass or not.

increase mo lang yung meat intake mo or yet lean meat ( lomo, breast part, lean beef , etc ) sa everyday meal mo.

unless you count your calories and macros everyday. youll have a hard time knowing whether your nutrition is enough for you to gain mass/muscle. and since you dont want to bother your wife about what you need to eat. the easiest way is just like what jettie said eat as much meat as you can. pero di mo parin sigurado kung tama/sobra/kulang parin yun.

I don't think its "enough" per se.
You have to train your self. The only way to gain muscle mass is thru training plus proper nutrition.

Normal pinoy foods are packed with sodiums, bad fats and simple carbs, that will wreck havoc on your body.

It won't "toned" or add any muscles to you. Doing this will only increase your belly.

I lost weight eating typical carinderia food. During my bulk phase, I still eat carinderia food and I still gained massand muscle. I have to agree with the ones posted above - the issue here is more on serving size but the food quality would also affect one's nutrition.

A home cooked meal will mean fresher ingredients, with better nutritional value. Adobo for example is recommended by some of the local and international fitness magz/books that I had read. There might be an issue on sodium but the protein content is superb, even if its just plain chicken, better with pork or with egg. Tilapia, though usually fried, is also highly recommended - the saturated fats though... Tinola is a great cutting dish, the quality protein meat, the veggies included, and the soup stock that would fill your belly up fast...

The problematic ones on the local dishes would be dinuguan, igado, or any dish that emphasizes on innards like isaw. But the rest should be fine when eaten in the correct serving size, in moderation and in variety. So are Filipino foods generally unhealthy? It will depend on the dish, like every other cuisine out there. Even Indian food which is mostly vegetable would be a nightmare for bodybuilders if the ones on the menu are saturated with processed oil. Mexican food like the salmon, avocado and mango salad with squeezed lime/calamansi is the perfect muscle building food. Its a street food in Mexico, but Mexicans are the fattest nation right now even with god-tier street food. Just choose which Filipino food will give you the best gains like the nilaga, laswa/denengdeng, and sinigang and everything should be fine, and fun too.

before ako nag work, mountaineer ako dati allen since 2002. at that time malakas ako kumain at home or during climb at syempre puro filipino food lahat lalo na ang adobo baboy or lechon paksiw na pineprepare namin half cooked tapos niluluto sa peak. hindi lumaki muscles ko, sobra ko pa rin payat. nag ka abs ako ng konti dahil cguro 12kilos to 15kilos na 40litre rucksack dala2 ko dati sa pag akyat, ewan ko lang sa likod. at first parang wala lang yan 12kilos, pero after hours steep climb and lack of stamina and muscle it becomes a pain sa shoulders, sa hips and legs. so muscle mass despite all that? nada. although meron kami mga kasama na ang tataba. so hindi pa rin matatawag yan muscle mass kung di excess fat. opinion ko lang yan if you're being sarcastic. :)

aba teka hihihi... btw, tulad kayo ni sir allen bro jm :) ganyan din binubuhat nya dati nung naakyat p sya ng bundok. sya nga pala, sa mga tulad nyong mahilig mamundok, nakakalaki ba ng legs yun o nakak strong lang? salamat and peace all brothers :)

hindi lumaki legs ko sir Emman, skinny muscle look lng. naging strong lang cguro. kc tumagal hindi na masakit ang legs ko paakyat.. pa baba yung pain talaga, lalo na sa knee joints (mas mahirap pa baba kyza pa akyat para sa akin). more on leg, lower back muscle lalong2 lalo na stamina pinaka importante sa lahat, kc nung bago pa ako sumali ang lakas mag pump ng heart ko with heavy breathing. :)

    hello fellow climber.

pasensya na, minsan kc ang hirap mag isip ng word sa tagalog, kung pwede pa lang mag bisaya. haya.an mo mag tagalog nq, ini.isip ko rin baka meron tau mga noypi in the shtates na nag vi.visit dito na hindi maka sabot ug tagalog. :)

Kanlaon pero it's a whole day trek. :)
